Blonde Hardwood Flooring
In 2017, we’re starting to see a shift from the grey-toned hardwood flooring of years past, to super-light stains and woods, such as maple, birch and ash. While grey is still a popular option for homeowners throughout Ottawa, blonde-colored flooring is a great way to make a room feel light, spacious and modern. Light-colored wood also provides a perfect backdrop to showcase a dramatic area rug or other furniture and décor pieces throughout the home.
The beauty of hardwood flooring trends is that they never truly go out of style. Hardwood flooring and wood-look flooring, such as laminate, tile or vinyl, is always a good investment for your home, whether the wood is light, dark or somewhere in between.
Say goodbye to shiny surfaces! Matte and satin finishes are popular this year for flooring and other surfaces in the home. Natural stone tiles, such as travertine and marble, naturally lend themselves to this rustic look. Look for tiles with a honed, versus polished, finish.
An additional benefit to this current trend is that matte finishes are much better at hiding scratches and other imperfections. Shiny surfaces reveal all flaws, but dents and dings naturally blend into the look of matte finishes, and can even add to the character and appeal.
Terrazzo flooring is most commonly found in schools and commercial spaces, but it is making a strong comeback in the residential market as well. This flooring is recognizable as a composition of marble, granite, quartz and/or glass chips. It can be found in a wide variety of colors, depending on the materials used in production, and it is durable, low-maintenance and long-wearing.
Terrazzo is a great way to express your personality is a space. You can create fantastic mosaic patterns with the materials, or opt for a more subdued look in neutral colors. It is also an eco-friendly option, typically made from recycled materials.
